Teens and Canoes

Today I went on a canoe trip for the high school youth of St. Andrew. Angela came along too since she loves outdoorsy stuff. There were 7 youth and 5 chaperons. I guess a bunch dropped, but it was good since we ended up not taking the bus! We went for 7 miles down the Brazos River near Glen Rose, TX. We made two stops for food and rest and swimming. Going down that river today was an awesome experience! It was beautiful and at some points very peaceful. At first I was a little nervous for going because I had never been canoeing down a river before, but I never flipped and had a great time! Though my arms and shoulders are going to pay for it tomorrow... oofda.

The best part was simply getting to know the teens who went. We had youth in all four high school grades from at least 4 different high schools. Some knew each other from other events, but for those they didn't know they were very welcoming and very respectful. I was so impressed by them! And they definitely want to be involved in youth group activities. Some of them have had a rough life growing up and one kid's story was particularly inspiring.
Ok, I'm exhausted and need to get to bed before midnight. Long day at the parish tomorrow with RCIA and the Ministry Fair.

Lisa, what kind of Wisconsinite are you? Never been canoeing before... really? :)

Not to be critical, but as the token Norwegian I feel the need to correct your spelling. 'Oofda' is spelled "Uffda!"

Sounds like a great trip!

I don't know about that Jonathan... that may be the way that SOME people spell it... but a priest at my old college (who is very Minnesotan and probably Norwegian, he has the best minnesotan accent ever) He told me that you spell it "oofda." Uff does not make the same sound as oof!
